Joseph Sarlo completed his undergraduate studies at
Florida Atlantic University
where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Music focusing on composition and classical guitar. He graduated
Summa Cum Laude in both degrees and was named the Stan and Renee Wimberly
Scholar of the Year, the highest honor given to a graduating senior.
Joseph then attended the Peabody
Conservatory of Music of Johns Hopkins
University where he received a Master of Music degree in Computer Music
Composition. Joseph has been awarded the Frank D. Willis Memorial Prize and
the Gustav Klemm Award in composition. He took second place in the Fifth Anual
Prix d'Ete composition competition and his works have been performed at such
venues as the Florida Electroacoustic
Music Festival, Timara Center
at Oberlin Conservatory, the
Peabody Institute, and
Florida Atlantic University. His
current projects include
GrIPD: Graphical Interface
for Pure Data, some
pitched/unpitched timbre signal processing methods, and realtime
guitar-performance/computer interaction techniques. Joseph is also employed by
Creative Advanced Technology Center / E-MU and is concurrently
pursuing a Masteres of Eng. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in
Computer Music at the
University of California, San Diego.
