hub
for flute, piano, percussion and electronics
program notes
As a composer I am very interested in illusion and dialogue between acoustic and electronic forces and this concept has been a central component of my pieces for instruments and electronics. However, in hub I wanted employ a physical approach to achieve a more intimate sense of timbral and spatial similarity. This resulted in several instances where speakers are placed in an acoustic body so that the sonic results a hybrid between the physical object and the speaker's stimulus. This limits the degree of freedom of the sonic result and something is synthesized that is very similar to an instrument. My hope is that, through this greater sense of intimacy, I can more easily transverse the space between electronic and acoustic materials. Many thanks to SEAMUS for the funding that made this work possible. ![]() | [[STEREO version]] |
